This is a minor negative and I have gotten used to its location. I think Panasonic could have found a better place for the button. There are a few negatives: The on/off button is a bit small and I don’t like the fact that it is wedged in between the two dials and the zoom control. I found it extremely useful and accurate. I didn’t think much of this feature until I started using it. There is a great focusing feature where you touch the back screen to indicate where the camera should focus. I find that the camera focuses quickly and accurately. The Wi-Fi connectivity works extremely well with my iPhone. The battery life is impressive, even when shooting indoors and using the pop-up flash. I attribute this to the quality of the sensor and lens. The camera renders very accurate exposures, colors and skin tones in my street scenes. The camera’s metering system performed well in each mode. I have shot in most modes: manual, shutter-priority, aperture-priority and program. I have shot in JPEG format enough to know that great results are produced straight out of the camera. In low light, the images revealed a significant amount of digital noise but much of it is easily resolved in post-processing. I shoot primarily in raw format and the images hold the highlights very well details are effectively brought out in post-processing. I love the fact that the range of the zoom goes from 25-250mm. The images are remarkably sharp with great contrast I credit the Zeiss lens for the high quality of the images. It handles the dynamic range extraordinarily well. I put my ZS100 to the test and boy did it perform beyond my expectations. In my landscape work, I shoot in lighting conditions where the dynamic range is a challenge because of the extreme lighting conditions of sunrise and sunset. I typically shoot landscape and street photography. I have now shot approximately 1,500 images and am amazed at how well the camera performs. How does it perform? Well, that’s where the rubber meets the road. e buttons and main dial all seem to be located in convenient places. It is well built and heavier than your typical point and shoot but still very comfortable to carry around. Out of the box, the camera has a nice finish and a very substantial feel. I ordinarily shoot with a professional digital SLR so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I agreed to test the ZS100 for Panasonic. I received the Panasonic Lumix ZS100 digital camera as part of my participation. I participated in an Advocate Program on behalf of Panasonic USA. If you want to print your photos, have a good zoom, be able to share on social media quickly, this is a great buy. I highly recommend buying a small, light tripod as well. The ZS100 provides familiar features for smartphone users and advanced features for anyone who wants to experiment with photography more. The fantastic image stabilization means you can shoot handheld for most circumstances, and clip length is 30 minutes, even better than DSLRs. Autofocus video on a DSLR often winds up with mechanical zooming noise, but the ZS100 excels here. Video at 1080p or 4k is sharp, autofocusing is relatively fast on moving subjects, and most importantly it is silent. There are also four user-programmable buttons, which I use for ISO control, quick WiFi control, 4K photo mode and timelapse mode. When you start to learn the manual modes, however, is when you'll get the most out of this little powerhouse.Īs a photog I know my way around the buttons and dials of a few cameras, which made the ZS100 a delight to use - with two user-configurable dials (one near the shutter button, and another larger ring around the lens base), you can control manual focus, aperture, ISO sensitivity or a host of other functions you might want to change quickly. If you leave the camera on Auto, you'll end up with a pleasant picture taking experience, and some above-average quality pictures. For landscapes, macros, portraits or even selfies, using the ZS100 is a breeze. If you want to hike, walk, explore a city or spend a day at the beach, switching lenses or lugging a 3-5 pound beast around your neck will be annoying after about 5 minutes.Įnter the 1-inch sensor ZS100, weighing just 11 ounces with battery and memory card, with a 25-250mm zoom equivalent lens that focuses fast and shoot sharp images. nd DSLRs with multiple lenses get heavy, fast. Being on the road for nearly two years taught me two things: you should always have a camera ready to go, a. Highlights: Sharp focus, responsive and easy UI, timelapse mode, simple WiFi image transfers, in-camera RAW converter, good zoom, great image stabilization at full zoom, tiny size, abundance of buttons/wheels I received product samples as part of my participation. Before I begin: I participated in an Advocate Program on behalf of Panasonic USA.
